Irgandi Bridge Restoration and Structural Strengthening

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Irgandi Bridge is the only Ottoman Bazaar on a bridge. It was constructed in 1442. There were totally 32 shops lined on both sides of the bridge. It is almost similar to Ponte Vichio in Florence/Italy. There are totally four similar structures in the world and Irgandi is known to be the oldest one. The building survey, restitution, restoration, structural strengthening drawings and valculations / reports were prepared in 1988, and approved by Bursa Regional Board of Monuments in 2002. The construction works for the restoration of the bridge were completed in 2004. Currently the bridge and the shops are serving as a souvenier market.
