NATURE OF WORK:
The aim of the project was to generate the A-E services required to construct a Dormitory for the USAF personnel who are assigned to NATO. The facility was built in a Military Family Housing Area of the Turkish Air Forces.
The facility was designed to be totally a 1400 square meters structure, the dormitory section housed six (6) Modules for enlisted personnel, nine (9) modules for Officers, a General Officer’s Module, and shall include supporting functions such as a Supply Storage, Bulk Storage, Administration, Conference / Unit Assembly Area, Fitness Center, Central Communication Room, Mechanical Room, Access Control Point, and an office for the Security Officer.
The main objective in the design was to provide a facility that would deter terrorist purposes, and protect the occupants from terrorist activities. Therefore all AT/FP requirements were taken into consideration during the siting of the facility and generation of the Civil, Architectural and Structural designs. The site conditions were evaluated and the dis-advantages of the high slope were turned out to be advantages for the AT/FP measures, and the architectural discipline of the building. The subject project was chosen as the Honor Award winner, 2002 United States Air Forces in Europe Design awards. Also the same project entered to the worldwide Air Force Competition, and received a Citation award in the Concept Design Category.
During the construction of the building the technical team of Altan Ltd. Co. provided construction inspection / management / technical support (Title II) services.
