GOQ Housing

The contract No. FA56820D005 – FA568521F0065 provided for the design services required to provide restitution and restoration projects to renovate Building No.3 as a GOQ Housing Unit at NATO LANDCOM, IZMIR / TURKEY. The aim of the project was to provide all required restitution and restoration projects to renovate existing Building No.3 as a GOQ Housing Unit at NATO LANDCOM, IZMIR / TURKEY. Therefore Civil, Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering services were conducted in order to meet the current functional requirements of the user, to improve physical condition of the building, site conditions and to provide a safe / pleasant environment for the building occupants. The design work mainly included the followings:

• A-E design met both restoration findings/tests/reports/specifications determined with “Resolution 660, Classification, maintenance and repair of historical and cultural properties” and UFC standards listed in Item 1.10 Codes and Regulations during the design stage.

• All civil, architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical plans and details were designed according to the new structural rehabilitation, improvements and upgrades based on surveys, analyzes and calculations.

Civil, Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical requirements for this project were primarily dictated by the requirements of Culture and Tourism Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board of Turkey, existing conditions, building usage and programmed activities.

Functional, economical, safety and security concerns were the primary design determinants, which aesthetic concerns having a modest, yet secondary priority. The primary objective in the design had been to obtain low construction cost and long low range maintenance costs by selecting appropriate methods and materials of construction, suitable for the aimed purpose.
